        Short version: GeoReminder uses your device’s location to trigger reminders near places you care about. You can use the app entirely offline (where data stays on your device), or sign in with Google to securely sync your reminders to the cloud. You have full control to instantly delete your cloud data and account at any time directly from the App settings.
      

This Privacy Policy describes how GeoReminder (the “App”) collects, uses, and protects information when you use the App on your Android device.

2. Scope of This Policy

This Privacy Policy applies only to the GeoReminder Android application. It does not apply to any third-party websites, services, or applications that may be linked to or integrated with the App.

3. Information I Collect

3.1 Location Data

GeoReminder relies on your device’s location to provide core functionality such as geofencing and location-based reminders.

The App may collect and use:

Precise location data (e.g., GPS, Wi-Fi, and mobile network information).
Location information in the background, even when the App is not open, in order to detect when you enter or leave defined geographic areas (geofences).

If you use the App offline, this location data is processed only locally on your device. If you choose to log in, your saved locations and reminder coordinates are securely synced to Google Cloud (Firestore) to enable multi-device access.

3.2 Accounts & Authentication

You can use the App completely offline without creating an account. However, if you choose to sign in (via Google Sign-In) to back up and sync your data, the App will collect basic profile information provided by Google, including:

Your email address
Your profile picture URL
A unique, anonymous user ID assigned by Firebase Authentication

3.3 Device Data

The App does not intentionally collect device identifiers (such as Android ID or Advertising ID) for its core functionality.

3.4 Usage Data, Analytics & Crash Reports

The App uses third-party services (Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics) to help understand how the App is used and to improve stability and performance. You have the option to opt-in or opt-out of these services during the App's onboarding, and can toggle them at any time in the Settings.

When enabled, these services may collect anonymized or pseudonymized information such as:

Basic device information (device model, OS version)
App version and usage patterns (e.g., which screens are viewed)
Crash reports and error information
Approximate usage times

This information is used purely to diagnose issues and improve the App. It is not used to personally identify you.

4. How Your Information Is Stored

Offline Mode: If you do not log in, all reminder data, locations, and configuration settings are stored locally on your device.
Cloud Sync: If you log in with Google, your reminders and favorite locations are securely stored using Google Firebase (Firestore).
I do not operate independent proprietary servers; all cloud infrastructure relies on Google's highly secure Firebase platform.

5. Third-Party Services

GeoReminder uses the following third-party services:

5.1 Google Maps & Android Location Services

The App uses Google services to:

Display native maps
Access device location
Handle geofencing and location updates

These services are provided by Google and are subject to Google’s own terms of service and privacy policy.

5.2 MapTiler

The App uses MapTiler services for:

Location search
Reverse geocoding (turning coordinates into place names/addresses)

When you search for a place or your location is converted into a readable address, data (such as coordinates or search queries) is sent to MapTiler’s servers. This is subject to MapTiler’s own privacy policy and terms.

5.3 Firebase Platform

The App uses the following Firebase services (provided by Google):

Firebase Authentication: To handle Google Sign-In.
Cloud Firestore: To securely store and sync your reminders if you are logged in.
Firebase Analytics: To understand general usage trends (if enabled).
Firebase Crashlytics: To receive crash reports and improve app stability (if enabled).

The App does not currently use:

Advertising SDKs
Third-party attribution services such as AppsFlyer or Mixpanel
Subscription/payment SDKs (e.g., RevenueCat)

I do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for marketing or advertising purposes. Your information is shared only in the specific, limited circumstances described below:

Service Providers (External Processing): I share data with trusted third-party service providers (such as Google Firebase, Google Maps, and MapTiler) to perform essential functions on my behalf. These providers process your data according to my instructions and in compliance with this Privacy Policy and appropriate confidentiality and security measures.
Pre-registration Reward Fulfillment: If you participated in our pre-registration campaign, the App receives a unique, anonymized token from the Google Play Store upon your first launch. This token is used solely to verify your eligibility for the pre_registration_bonus (the 5-reminder limit increase) and to ensure the reward is correctly applied to your account.
Legal Requirements: I may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in the good-faith belief that such action is necessary to: (i) comply with a legal obligation or government request; (ii) protect and defend the rights or property of the developer; or (iii) protect against legal liability.
Business Transfers: In the event that GeoReminder undergoes a business transition, such as a merger, acquisition by another company, or sale of assets, your information may be among the assets transferred. You will be notified via a prominent notice within the App of any such change in ownership.
Aggregated or Anonymized Data: I may share non-personally identifiable, aggregated, or anonymized usage data with partners or the public to show trends about the general use of the App or to improve our services.

7. Children’s Privacy

GeoReminder is intended for the general public and is not specifically designed for children under the age of 13.

The App does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe that your child has provided personal information via the Cloud Sync feature, please contact me or use the in-app deletion tools to remove the data.

8. Data Retention & Deletion

Offline Data: Data stored locally on your device remains there until you manually delete it or uninstall the App. Uninstalling the App instantly wipes all local data.
Cloud Data: If you are logged in, you can instantly and permanently delete all your synced data and your authentication record by navigating to the App's Settings and tapping "Delete Account".
If Firebase Analytics or Crashlytics are enabled, Google may retain certain anonymized usage or crash data for a limited period according to their retention policies.

9. Your Rights

Depending on your location (e.g., under the GDPR or CCPA), you may have certain rights regarding your data, such as the right to:

Access information about what data is processed
Request correction of inaccurate information
Request deletion of your information

You have direct control over your data. You can delete individual reminders, clear your local data by uninstalling the app, or wipe your entire cloud presence using the "Delete Account" feature in the Settings menu. For any other privacy requests, feel free to contact me.

10. Security

I take reasonable measures to protect your data within the App, and rely on Google's industry-standard security to protect synced cloud data. However, no method of transmission or electronic storage is 100% secure. The security of your device (screen lock, OS updates, etc.) also plays a critical role in protecting your data.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

I may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example when adding new features or integrating new third-party services.

When I make changes, I will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Significant changes may also be communicated within the App where appropriate.

If you continue to use GeoReminder after changes to this Privacy Policy take effect, you agree to the revised policy.
